At 11, Jacob’s grandfather died and he lost his one source of stability. He and his substance addicted mother then began living in the back of their pick-up truck. His mother often made him feel like a burden for needing food, clothes or shoes that fit. At age 16, Jacob returned from his part-time job to find that he had been abandoned by his mother and was now left to fend for himself.

Jacob was brought to LifeWorks to live at our Transitional Living Shelter. He began GED preparation courses with only a fourth grade reading level. With hard work and encouragement, he achieved his GED in two years, obtained a driver’s license and learned to cook, clean and care for himself. Now at 22, he is currently working full-time, enrolled at ACC and living a self-sufficient life.

Jacob’s journey is just one of the thousands seen at LifeWorks every year; each sounding like a dramatic motion picture, but touchingly true. The LifeWorks Academy Awards Gala is our major fundraiser of the year and 100% of the proceeds are used to benefit LifeWorks clients like Jacob.

Your support affirms and strengthens our mission to transition youth and families from crisis to safety and success. We anticipate over 750 guests gathering to celebrate LifeWorks and the achievements of the individuals we serve. We would be honored to have you join us on this journey. Please take a moment to fill out the sponsor form to reserve your table.
