A short history of Frank and Johanna Chada

Family lore says the family left eastern Moravia and desembarked in New Orleans. This coincided with a serious flu epidemic, for which the immigrants were blamed. As a result they were put back on a ship bound for Texas. They desembarked in Galveston. They learned of free land in northern Texas so they took a boat up the Brazos River. Enroute, the boat ran aground, so the immigrants got off and settled near the town of Tours, TX. There some farmed, others ran businesses and a tavern. Some members continued on to West, TX, some 12 miles distant, where they farmed. It is said the family in West, TX, donated land from the farm for the Catholic church and cemetery. It is also said that one of the families moved to Wisconsin, settling near Milwaukee. All this occured around the turn of the century.
