Include vulnerabilities, reported hacks, reported fixes. Include password recommendations and ways that applications send passwords, encrypted or not, and where the passwords are stored. How do users get their passwords changed. Select several (to be determined) applications and review each one’s policies and procedures re password use. Document attempts to compromise the security of several applications with the permission of the owners. Skills Needed/Developed: Web programming, LDAP understanding, unix permission scheme, good documentation skills, ability to follow directions and meet deadlines. | Develop and Implement an Outbound Mail Server for CS Many applications have a need to send email. Current restrictions on our outbound email is that we can only send to stedwards.edu email addresses. A major reason to not have a mail server that handles outbound and inbound is the possibility of getting spammed and denial of services. This project is to investigate email servers and the parameters that are configurable. Then with Alberto's technical assistance (ip addressing for example) to implement the server in stages with each stage THOROUGHLY tested by the project developer and independent applications. See Dr. Camden if interested. | Dr. Camden | johnc@stedwards.edu | 512-448-8463 |
| Develop a small CRM (Customer Relations Module) for a company in Austin. A Heating and Air Conditioning company in Austin has a web site that shows information about the company and its products/services and a web page to send a request to the company. They would like to be able to send email and letters to customers reminding them to call for an appointment for a checkup. This project is to do a feasibility study for the company and if accepted, to develop the software for the company. This project involves meeting with clients, investigating the web site host capabilites and, if approved, developing and implementing the system. If not approved for the company, this same capability will be developed and implemented in several CS applications. This is a good project that covers client interviewing, project design, software development (java, php, database) and practice writing a feasibility study. Dr. Michael Harris from the School of Business will be the initial contact for the company. | Dr. Camden | johnc@stedwards.edu | 512-448-8463 |
