Using the Journal of Forensic Sciences for Research

If you’re looking for current articles on any forensic science subject, follow these instructions to browse the journal:

 

  1. Go the Library’s home page: http://libr.stedwards.edu/
  2. Click on the link on the right that says “Periodicals”
  3. Search using “Journal of Forensic Sciences” (no quotes)
  4. Under that title, click on the link to the journal’s home page entitles “Single Journal”
  5. Click on the link “Table of Contents” on the bottom left part of the screen
  6. You should see a link to every volume and issue to which we have access in reverse chronological order
  7. The full text is available only from the most current issue back to 1998.  Everything prior to that is abstracts only
  8. If you need an older article, request it via Illiad (interlibrary loan) at: http://illiad.stedwards.edu/

 

Searching

 

If you’re looking for an article in Journal of Forensic Sciences on a particular subject, please follow these instructions:

 

1-4 are the same as above

5. Click on the “Search” link on the bottom left part of the screen

6. Put your search terms in the appropriate boxes – see example below:

 

 

This would retrieve results on using frontal sinuses for positive identification.  Specifying that you want to search only in the Abstract field means you’re not searching authors, titles or any of the other options.  It’s the best place in which to search for subjects.

 

7. This brings up a screen with links to articles.
